The Scar

A little boy invited his mother to attend his elementary school's first teacher-parent conference. To the little boy's dismay, she said she would go. This would be the first time that his classmates and teacher met his mother and he was embarrassed by her appearance. Although she was a beautiful woman, there was a severe scar that covered nearly the entire right side of her face. The boy never wanted to talk about why or how she got the scar.
At the conference, the people were impressed by the kindness and natural beauty of his mother despite the scar, but the little boy was still embarrassed and hid himself from everyone. He did, however, get within earshot of a conversation between his mother and his teacher, and heard them speaking.
"How did you get the scar on your face?" the teacher asked.
The mother replied, "When my son was a baby, he was in a room that caught on fire. Everyone was too afraid to go in because the fire was out of control, so I went in. As I was running toward his crib, I saw a beam coming down and I placed myself over him trying to protect him. I was knocked unconscious but fortunately, a fireman came in and saved both of us." She touched the burned side of her face. "This scar will be permanent, but to this day, I have never regretted doing what I did."
At this point, the little boy came out running towards his mother with tears in his eyes. He hugged her and felt an overwhelming sense of the sacrifice that his mother had made for him. He held her hand tightly for the rest of the day.

Student Health Insurance: Something You Can

Obtaining good health insurance while you are studying overseas is a real necessity to protect you from minor and catastrophic medical expenses that can wipe out not only your savings, but you dreams of an education abroad.
There are often two different types of health insurance you can consider buying: internationl travel insurance and student insurance in the country where you will be going. An international travel insurance policy is usually purchased in your home country before you go abroad. It generally covers a wide variety of medical services, and you are often given a list of doctors in the area where you will travel who may even speak your native language. The drawback might be that you aren't reinbursed for your medical expenses immediately. In other words, you may have to pay all your medical expenses and then later submit your receipts to the insurance company.
On the other hand, getting student health insurance in the country where you will study might allow you to only pay a certain percentage of the medical cost at the time of service (commonly called a co-pay), and thus, you don't have to have sufficient cash to pay the entire bill at once.
Whatever you decide, obtaining some form of health insurance is something you should plan before you go overseas rather than waiting until you are sick with major medical bills to pay off.

Listening is powerful medicine

I believe listening is powerful Medicine.
Studies have shown it takes a physician about 18 seconds to interrupt a patient after he begins talking.
It was Sunday. I had one last patient to see. I approached her room in a hurry and stood at the doorway. She was an older woman, sitting at the edge of the bed, struggling to put socks on her swollen feet. I crossed the threshold, spoke quickly to the nurse, scanned her chart noting she was in stable condition. I was almost in the clear.
I leaned on the bedrail looking down at her. She asked if I could help put on her socks. Instead, I launched into a monologue that went something like this: "How are you feeling? Your sugars and blood pressure were high but they're better today. The nurse mentioned you're anxious to see your son who's visiting you today. It's nice to have family visit from far away. I bet you really look forward to seeing him."
She stopped me with a stern, authoritative voice. "Sit down, doctor. This is my story, not your story."
I was surprised and embarrassed. I sat down. I helped her with the socks. She began to tell me that her only son lived around the corner from her, but she had not seen him in five years. She believed that the stress of this contributed greatly to her health problems. After hearing her story and putting on her socks, I asked if there was anything else I could do for her. She shook her head no and smiled. All she wanted me to do was to listen.
Each story is different. Some are detailed; others are vague. Some have a beginning, middle and end. Others wander without a clear conclusion. Some are true; others not. Yet all those things do not really matter. What matters to the storyteller is that the story is heard — without interruption, assumption or judgment.
Listening to someone's story costs less than expensive diagnostic testing but is key to healing and diagnosis.
I often thought of what that woman taught me, and I reminded myself of the importance of stopping, sitting down and truly listening. And, not long after, in an unexpected twist, I became the patient, with a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis at age 31. Now, 20 years later, I sit all the time — in a wheelchair.
For as long as I could, I continued to see patients from my chair, but I had to resign when my hands were affected. I still teach med students and other health care professionals, but now from the perspective of physician and patient.
I tell them I believe in the power of listening. I tell them I know firsthand that immeasurable healing takes place within me when someone stops, sits down and listens to my story.

An Ingenious Love Letter

There once lived a lad who was deeply in love with a girl, but disliked by the girl’s father, who didn’t want to see any further development of their love. The lad was eager to write to the girl, yet he was quite sure that the father would read it first. So he wrote such a letter to the girl:
My love for you I once expressed
no longer lasts, instead, my distaste for you
is growing with each passing day. Next time I see you,
I even won’t like that look yours.
I’ll do nothing but
look away from you. You can never expect I’ll
marry you. The last chat we had
was so dull and dry that you shouldn’t think it
made me eager to see you again.
If we get married, I firmly believe I’ll
live a hard life, I can never
live happily with you, I’ll devote myself
but not
to you. No one else is more
harsh and selfish and least
solicitous and considerate than you.
I sincerely want to let you know
what I said is true. Please do me a favor by
ending our relations and refrain from
writing me a reply. Your letter is always full of
things which displease me. You have no
sincere care for me. So long! Please believe
I don’t love you any longer. Don’t think
I still have a love of you!
Having read the letter, the father felt relieved and gave it to his daughter with a light heart.
The girl also felt quite pleased after she read it carefully, her lad still had a deep love for her.
Do you know why? In fact, she felt very sad when she read the letter for the first time. But she read it for a few more times and , at last, she found the key – only every other line should be read, that is the first line, the third, the fifth … and so on to the end.

Life is about choices

Michael is the kind of guy you love to hate. He is always in a good mood and always has something positive to say. When someone would ask him how he was doing, he would reply, "If I were any better, I'd be twins!" He was a natural motivator.
If an employee was having a bad day, Michael was there telling the employee how to look on the positive side of the situation. Seeing this style really made me curious, so one day I went up to Michael and asked him, "I don' t get it. You can' t be positive all the time. How do you do it?"
Michael replied, each morning I wake up and say to myself 'Mike, you have two choices today. You can choose to be in a good mood or you can choose to be in a bad mood.' I choose to be in a good mood. Each time something bad happens, I can choose to be a victim or choose to learn from it. I choose to learn from it. Every time someone comes to me complaining I can choose to accept their complaining or I can point out the positive side of life. I choose the positive side of life."
"Yeah, right. It isn't that easy." I protested.
"Yes it is, " Michael said. "Life is all about choices. When you cut away all the junk, every situation is a choice. You choose how you react to situations. You choose how people will affect your mood. You choose to be in a good mood or bad mood. The bottom line is: It's your choice how you live life. " I reflected on what Michael said.
Soon thereafter, I left the big enterprise that I had worked in for years to start my own business. We lost touch, but I often though about him when I made a choice about life instead of reacting to it. Several years later, I heard Michael was involved in a serious accident, falling off 60 feet from a communications tower.
After l8 hours of surgery, and weeks of intensive care, Michael was released from the hospital with rods placed in his back. I saw Michael about six months after the accident. When I asked him how he was, he replied, "If I were any better, I'd be twins. Wanna see my scars?" I declined to see his wounds, but did ask him what had gone through his mind as the accident took place.
"The first thing that went through my mind was the well being of my soon-to-born daughter," Michael replied. "Then, as I lay on the ground, remembered I had two choices: I could choose to live or I could choose to die. I chose to live." "Weren't you scared? Did you lose consciousness?" I asked. Michael continued, "... the paramedics were great. They kept telling me I was going to be fine. But when they wheeled me into the operation room and I saw the expressions on the faces of the doctors and nurses, I got really scared. In their eyes, l read 'He's a dead man.' I knew I needed to take action." "What did you do?" I asked. "Well, there was a big burly nurse shouting questions at me" said Michael. "She asked me if I was allergic to anything. 'Yes,' I said. The doctors and nurses stopped working as they waited for my reply. I took a deep breath and yelled", 'Gravity'" Over their laughter, I told them, 'I'm choosing to live. Operate on me as if I am alive, not dead'."
Michael lived, thanks to the skill of his doctors, but also because of his amazing attitude.
I learned from him that every day we have a choice to live fully. Attitude is everything.

Speaking Effective American English

On job interviews when first conversing with an individual and when addressing small or large groups, the first few seconds are critical in setting the tone for how you'll be perceived. If she has an annoying regional accent, uses incorrect grammar, has a limited vocabulary, and if she has an irritatingly sharp piercing voice, sounds whiny or bossy or doesn't articulate her words clearly, it' s an immediate turn-off. This isn't someone who you would hire or proudly introduce to your friends and business associates. This doesn't mean that everyone should try to sound like a professional actor or broadcaster. All of us have qualities unique to our own way of speaking, our individual voiceprint as distinctive as our fingerprints. Our voice is very personal and an important part of our identity. Some natural characteristics of our voice may be very appealing.

The idea is to take the voice with which you've been gifted and give it the very best sound that you can. With the right type of practice, by paying attention to the quality of your voice and by knowing how to properly express yourself, you' II almost immediately improve your opportunities in job interviews, social situations, in selling, and in running a meeting or addressing groups of people.

Let' s say it again, it all begins with the instrument, your voice. If its sound and quality is flawed and needs improvement, that' s where you start. That' s what everyone hears whether in casual conversation or in making a major speech to a large audience. Pure vowel sounds, articulation, proper breathing, expressive speaking patterns, a pleasing vocal range, naturalness, all these will make you get twice the result with half the effort.

Youth

Youth is not a time of life; it is a state of mind; it is not a matter of rosy cheeks, red lips and supple knees; it is a matter of the will, a quality of the imagination, a vigor of the emotions; it is the freshness of the deep springs of life.

Youth means a temperamental predominance of courage over timidity, of the appetite for adventure over the love of ease. This often exists in a man of 60 more than a boy of 20. Nobody grows old merely by a number of years. We grow old by deserting our ideals.

Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul. Worry, fear, self-distrust bows the heart and turns the spirit back to dust.

Whether 60 or 16, there is in every human being’s heart the lure of wonders, the unfailing appetite for what’s next and the joy of the game of living. In the center of your heart and my heart, there is a wireless station; so long as it receives messages of beauty, hope, courage and power from man and from the infinite, so long as you are young.

When your aerials are down, and your spirit is covered with snows of cynicism and the ice of pessimism, then you’ve grown old, even at 20; but as long as your aerials are up, to catch waves of optimism, there’s hope you may die young at 80.

The love world is big,the love world is small

The love world is big, which can hold hundreds of disappointments;

the love world is small which is crowded even with three people inside.

原来爱情的世界很大,大到可以装下上百种委屈;

To the world you may be one person, but to one person you may be the world.

Don’t waste your time on a man/woman, who isn’t willing to waste their time on you.

Maybe God wants us to meet a few wrong people before meeting the right one,

so that when we finally meet the person, we will know how to be grateful.

在遇到梦中人之前,上天也许会安排我们先遇到别的人;

It is better bo have love and lost than never to have loved at all.

Love me little, love me long.

To live in a world without you is more painful than any punishment.

Do you know that no one can replace you in my heart?

If love is a mountain, then if men go up,

more women they will see while women will see fewer men.

Love makes man grow up or sink down.

The only thing you can do when you no longer have something is not to forget.

To forgive is not to forget, nor remit, but let it go;

to be lonely is not because you have no friends, but no one is living in your heart.

The worst way to miss someone is to be

sitting right beside them knowing you can’t have them.

To keep someone around you is not love; love is to let the one you love go freely.

During the whole life, you will regret for two things:

one is that you don’t get the one you love and the other is the one you love is not happy.

Don’t cry because it is over, smile because it happened.

Never expect the perfect man,

it’s not because that you cannot find, but just because there is no perfect man.

An unacceptable love needs no sorrow but sometime for forgetting.

A badly-hurt heart needs no sympathy but understanding.

I love you not because of who you are, but because of who I am when I am with you.

No man or woman is worth your tears, and the one who is, won’t make you cry.

It’s often said that you will have the same life as the person you find.

Therefore, different choices make different endings.

Sometimes you need to look back,

otherwise you will never know what you have lost in the way of forever searching.

Most of people are looking forward the crystal-like love—pure without any defect.

However the truth is most people are having the glass-like love.

The one you love also loves you. This is a miracle.

And the god names this as falling in love with each other.

How it feels when you are loved by the one you love? How could it be like?

If you want to answer it immediately, you shall know how happy you are.

Hope and trust is the tail of a lizard, which can reproduce even after being cut off.

Do you think that the sourest feeling is to be jealous?

No, the sourest thing is that you have no rights to be jealous.

That’s the sourest thing.

To lost in something you love is better than to win in something you hate.

When every love comes to the end, if you look back,

you will find flowers and sorrows, but it’s always beautiful.

I know that love shall not be compared, but I still used to complaining what he is lack of.

Never frown, even when you are sad,

because you never know who is falling in love with your smile.

Love is an impossible meeting.

For example, I am a bird flying in sky,

you are a leopard in forest. We just fall in love accidentally.

When someone abandons you, it is him that gets loss

because he lost someone who truly loves him

but you just lost one who doesn’t love you.

The so-called turning-around is that you not only miss

the sun in day time but also the stars at night.

Just because someone doesn’t love you the way you want them to,

doesn’t mean they don’t love you with all they have.

Good love makes you see the whole world from one person

while bad love makes you abandon the whole world for one person.

Sometimes, I just wonder, we are from different waters,

although I admire your world, I will be drowned if I get close to you.

Why to ask so much when you are in love?

The mature never ask the past,

the wise never ask the present

and the open-minded never ask the future.

The key for happiness is not to find a perfect person,

but find someone and build a perfect relationship with him.

If you leave me, please don’t comfort me

because each sewing has to meet stinging pain.

The most special feeling of human is the one-sided love. That’s the unique.

You would never see a cat loving another cat in secret.

The love world is big, which can hold hundreds of disappointments;

the love world is small which is crowded even with three people inside.

原来爱情的世界很大,大到可以装下上百种委屈;

You shouldn't be inside my mind.

Everytime you walk away,You take my smile away
But I have no reason to make you stay
Every promise you have made,There's nothing could replace
I hesitate, if you were the right one who came late
I try to mend, I feel so ashamed,You shouldn't be inside my mind
But I'm so confused
I always think of you

What it makes to miss you so?,He's the one I should have hold
But I can't block you out of my soul,I don't wanna let you go
What it makes to miss you so?,When you're gone, I couldn't find my rainbow
But I can't leave him alone in sorrow,I have to let you go

Every little thing you say,and everything we taste
They are something could never be erased
Everything you dedicate,There's nothing could replace
I hesitate' if you were the right one who came late
I try to mend' I feel so ashamed,You shouldn't be inside my mind
But I'm so confused
I always think of you

What it makes to miss you so?,He's the one I should have hold
But I can't block you out of my soul,I don't wanna let you go
What it makes to miss you so?,When you're gone,I couldn't find my rainbow
But I can't leave him alone in sorrow,I have to let you go

If he didn't ever came into my life, then I'll take no regret
But I don't dare
he'll be so sad

Miss you so,He's the one I should have hold,I can't block you out of my soul,I don't wanna let you go
Miss you so,When you're gone,I couldn't find my rainbow
But I can't leave him alone in sorrow
I have to let you go

When you told me you loved me .

Once
Doesn't mean anything to me
Come
Show me the meaning of complete
Where
Did our love go wrong
Once we were so strong
How can I go on?
When you told me you loved me
Did you know it would take me the rest of my life
to get over the feeling of knowing
A dream didn't turn out right
When you let me believe that you weren't complete
Without me by your side
how could I know
That you would go
That you would run
Baby, I thought you were the one
Why
Can't I just leave it all behind
I
Felt passion so bright that I was blind
Then
Something made me weak
Talking in my sleep
Baby, I'm in so deep and you know I believed
When you told me you loved me
Did you know it would take me the rest of my life
to get over the feeling of knowing
A dream didn't turn out right
When you let me believe that you weren't complete
Without me by your side
how could I know
That you would go
That you would run
Baby, I thought you were the one
Your lips
Your face
Something that time just can't erase
Find my heart
Could break
All over again
When you told me you loved me
Did you know it would take me the rest of my life
to get over the feeling of knowing
A dream didn't turn out right
When you let me believe that you weren't complete
Without me by your side
how could I know
That you would go
That you would run
Baby, I thought you were the one
